Councillors signed off investment of £2.4m in the district’s broadband network as part of a major Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) project to bring high-speed internet access to all homes in the district in the coming years.

The capital spending programme, which totals more than £109m over the next three financial years, will also see investment of £2m in a new community facility for Cadbury Heath, as well as an additional £10m of investment to provide additional primary school places for local children.

Councillors also approved additional investment in roads maintenance throughout the district.

Separately, councillors approved a motion urging the Coalition Government to reconsider plans to convert Ashfield Young Offenders Institute in Pucklechurch to a Category C sex offenders’ prison.

Full minutes from the meeting will be published with the papers for the next Council meeting on 22 May.
