Extra £1 million to be invested in the rollout of broadband in South Gloucestershire

Members of the council’s Policy & Resources Committee have today (Monday 24 November) approved a further £150,000 to be invested in phase two of the rollout of broadband.
The extra investment complements the £350,000 already set aside which takes the council’s total contribution to half a million pounds.
The money will help unlock match funding of £500,000 from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) as part of phase two of the superfast extension programme.
Cllr John Goddard, Chair of the Resources Sub Committee, said: “As we move into phase two of broadband rollout in South Gloucestershire, we are committed to pushing the coverage as far as we can. The committee has today agreed a further £150,000 which should help unlock a total investment worth £1 million. This will help us to extend the programme to some of our harder to reach rural communities.”
The council has also applied for £500,000 of central government growth funding via the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership to invest in broadband for our residents and businesses. A decision is expected next month on whether the bid has been successful.
