Catering and schools support staff are among those to benefit from the scheme which will see employees on lower grades receive an hourly rate of £7.45.
This hourly rate is set by an independent body – the Centre for Research in Social Policy (CRSP) – to reflect the basic cost of living in the UK. As well as helping some of our lower paid staff, the Living Wage has been proven to help the local economy where organisations and businesses are situated as the extra money earned is spent locally.
Councillors voted to introduce the Living Wage at the full Council budget meeting earlier this year.
Eligible employees will receive their first Living Wage increase in October’s pay.
